Make it less “For the Gram” and more “From the Heart”
The Ceremony Celebrant shares her take on keeping your wedding authentic and real and why authenticity matters.
✨ What Really Matters When You’re Planning Your Wedding
Drawing on my experiences as a wedding planner and even looking back on my own wedding planning; it’s so easy to get swept up (or bogged down.. depending on how you spin it) in the endless choices … the gowns, the florals, the table decor- even the font on the stationery, all of the insta-worthy details.
But when you peel it all back, it’s not about the “stuff” at all. It’s about the people, connection and the feeling that runs through the whole day.
For me, that starts with your ceremony.
✨ A Celebrant Who Gets You
Right up there on the list of “most important things” surely is your celebrant (natch 💁🏼♀️)
Because the ceremony is the heart of the day. It’s not the bit you have to “get through” before the icy beers and cold cava. It’s where the story starts, your opening chapter.
When you have a celebrant who genuinely gets you; someone who listens, laughs with you and tells your story with heart and warmth, everything feels different.
It’s personal, it’s real and it sets the tone for the entire day.
You can have the most beautiful décor in the world, but if your ceremony feels disconnected or generic, it’ll never hit quite the same way as a ceremony that feels authentically you.
✨ The Rise of the Wedding Content Creator
Now, I’ll touch on something that I have noticed has popped up more and more recently- the wedding content creator.
I’m not going to lie, I was late to the party finding out what a content creator actually was 🥴
There’s a lot of hype and I completely understand the appeal. They’re there to catch those “blink-and-you’ll-miss-it” moments, the laughs, the nerves, the waves of unstoppable emotion. They give you something to look back on almost instantly, while you’re still riding that “just married” high.
But.. and I say this with love and experience, I’ve noticed a real divide between the good ones and the not-so-good ones.
Some of what’s being captured lately doesn’t feel natural at all. The so called “candid” clips can look completely staged; forced fun, forced affection, the couple clearly being told to “kiss now”, “look down”, “laugh!”, “walk slowly away then turn around”… and it ends up looking like a bad shampoo ad.
A complete cringe-fest and completely missing the point.
In my opinion, the beauty of good wedding content is that it should be real.
Genuine emotion, unguarded laughter, those tiny unplanned moments that say everything without being directed. When that authenticity is replaced by performance, you lose the soul of it all.
And if you’ve already invested thousands in a brilliant videographer, do you really need another person hovering around with an iPhone trying to recreate what’s already being beautifully captured?
That said, a skilled, respectful content creator who works seamlessly alongside your photographer and videographer, quietly, creatively and without interruption, can be a great addition. But only if they enhance the flow of the day, not interrupt it.
✨ Choose What Actually Matters
Your wedding should feel like you. Not like an Instagram trend, not like what you’ve been told you “should” have or “should” do
Surround yourselves with people who genuinely care about your experience; from your celebrant to your photographer, videographer, florist, planner and everyone in between.
Because, when you look back, it won’t be the insta carousel or the curated moments that mean the most…. They’ll be well down the feed by then.
It’ll be the emotion, the laughter, the atmosphere, the feeling of the day that you will remember.
That’s the magic. And it can’t be staged.
✨Making it real…
If you’re planning your ceremony and want it to feel personal, heartfelt, and completely yours, I’d love to help you create something meaningful and memorable.
You bring the story, I’ll help you tell it 🤍
